Hanam: An Olympic Rowing Lake, a Mountain on the Subway, and Post-Hike Food
At the eastern end of Seoul Subway Line 5, Hanam has Misa's lake parks, Geomdansan's river views and a proper after-hike food culture — scorched-rice chicken soup, charcoal dakgalbi and beef-tripe hot pot.

Hanam (하남) sits just past Seoul's eastern edge, where the Han River widens. Since Line 5 was extended to it, it's been one of the easiest half-day escapes from the city: a subway ride to a mountain trailhead, a lake park, and restaurants built for hungry hikers.
What to see
- Misa Lake Park and the Misari Rowing Course — the rowing venue built for the 1988 Seoul Olympics is now a long, calm stretch of water with walking and cycling paths. Misa Lake Park beside it is a favourite for evening walks.
- Geomdansan (검단산, 657 m) — the mountain rises straight from Geomdansan Station. The climb takes about two hours up and gives a wide view of the Han River and the confluence at Dumulmeori. It's steady but not technical.
- Starfield Hanam — one of Korea's largest shopping malls, if the weather turns.
- Hanam History Museum — local history from the Baekje period onward, in Deokpung-dong.

What to eat
- Sonamujip — at the foot of Geomdansan, serving chicken soup with scorched rice, acorn-jelly salad and buckwheat pancakes. It's the classic Korean post-hike meal. It was featured on a Hong Seok-cheon and Lee Won-il food show (the hero video above).
- Hanam Charcoal Dakgalbi (Misa main store) — charcoal-grilled spicy chicken.
- Hanam Dwaejijip (main store) — grilled pork, from the Hanam branch that gave the chain its name.
- Hanam Sogopchang Jeongol — a beef-tripe and intestine hot pot, a rich winter dish.
- Juyang Donkkaseu Nara — a pork cutlet shop featured on Tasty Guys.
- Hanmat — a Korean restaurant in Deokpung-dong.
How to plan the day
Morning: Line 5 to Geomdansan Station and hike up. Lunch: come down to a restaurant near the trailhead. Afternoon: go to the Misa area for a lakeside walk. Evening: have dakgalbi or barbecue in Misa before the subway home.
Practical tips
- Getting there: Seoul Subway Line 5, Hanam branch. Get off at Misa, Hanam Pungsan, Hanam City Hall or Hanam Geomdansan depending on your plan. It's about 40–50 minutes from central Seoul.
- Hiking gear: proper shoes and water. Korean hikers take mountains seriously, even small ones.
- Allergies: dakgalbi uses gochujang (wheat and soy), and buckwheat pancakes contain buckwheat.
Every restaurant below has a video on its EatHub page. Check a couple before you go so you know where you're heading when you come down the mountain.
